Good Folks quilt top, originally uploaded by Lucy & Norman.
Here is the finished quilt top I made for my girlfriend who just ran off and got hitched. I adore Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks line - so bright and cheery. I made this with the left overs from my mom's birthday quilt (WIP - I won't show you that one until I'm done) and bought a few prints in the blue colorway to add in. It is a Disappearing Nine Patch (great tutorial here) and I have no idea how to quilt it up. I know I don't get a lot of traffic through here yet, but any ideas or suggestions? I want the lines to be pretty organic so they don't draw attention to my less than perfect corners.
Here was last night's dinner. Chiogga & golden beet salad with fennel and grapefruit followed by simple roast chicken and baby red & fingerling potatoes. Pretty damn good if I don't say so myself. All washed down with some yet-to-be-released wine my talented husband made. I just wanted to show you the placemats I whipped up for Mark's birthday last month. He loves the Echino line and I thought this print with the little spider piggy was especially fitting - the man loves pork in any form. While I love our everyday plates (from Pottery Barn), some of them are a bit wobbly and it drives Mark crazy. I just but a little fusible fleece in between the linen and a canvas backing, and wah lah! Problem fixed and Mark loves them.
That dinner looks amazing - and so does the quilt! Stippling it would be nice I think - no one will ever know the flaws but you! I think it looks great!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Wow! This is very inspiring to me! I just started sewing & am wanting to start my first quilt!! Love it!! Can't be of any help, since I am only dreaming of quilting at this point!! But, GREAT job! I just bought some of that fabric to make myself a purse & some flowers for my girls' bags!!
ReplyDeletewow, that is one amazing quilt top! I am sure the newlyweds will be very pleased! you could try to quilt in the ditch? i did that with my disappearing nine patch, and it turned out great. no worry about drawing any attention to any little msitakes then either!
ReplyDeletedinner looks amazing by the way too!
Love the quilt top... I am working on a disappearing 9 patch runner and I am going to quilt it like this quilt (not sure if I can insert a link)http://www.flickr.com/photos/39390400@N07/3865302390/ I just did straight lines off of the lines in the quilt top - a random grid. I found your blog from the ORB quilt along... Love your wonky blocks!
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt top!! What size of squares did you use in your original 9-patch? I've never heard of a Disappearing 9-patch - gonna have to try one.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt.... and the placemats, the little pigs hidden here & there made me giggle!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much everyone! And I'm telling you what, Reynolds, I JUST started quilting and it is intimidating but if I have been able to figure some things out so can you! (Although I did screw up one or two in the beginning!) Practice makes confidence!
ReplyDeleteAhh! I have been amassing Good Folks for a while now in hopes of making a disappearing 9-patch for our bed! I'm determined to do it before February is over. Have you finished this? How did you decide to quilt it? (By the by, I got here via Flickr... love your bloggy!)
