WIP Wednesday *ahem* Friday

ETA- Please excuse me for not knowing what day of the week it is! It's been a little crazy around here. Olivia is growing like a cute little weed but experiencing a bit of tummy problems, resulting in hours of trying to soothe her. Lucy, being two, is behaving as such - and maybe finally exhibiting a bit of jealousy toward her new sister. Top that off with all kinds of potty training fun and you have one tired mama. Mark has been a big help but I think it's taking a little toll on both of us - so much so that we both forgot our wedding anniversary until the evening before! Oh, well, I guess this is all to be expected and at least we are managing to have some fun in between temper tantrums, colicky bouts and diaper changes.

Crafting is the main thing keeping me sane right now, even if it's just a half an hour squeezed in here or there. Here's a progress shot of my latest quilting obsession - my Maple Leaf Rag WIP. I just absolutely adore working on this in the little snippets of time my girls are allowing me, and it's incredibly satisfying to use up so many scraps from all my left over projects. Sorry for the crappy dark photo, but the lighting in my studio is really harsh. But at the rate this is going I'll have a quilt top to show you within a month or two. The pattern is one from the lovely Sarah Fielke in the book Material Obsession 2, and if you are like me and drowning in scraps I highly recommend it. It even uses all those odd-shaped teeny tiny ones. I think it's seriously the most fun I've ever had piecing a quilt top, and I'm quite sure it's going to end up being my most favorite quilt I've made yet.

I'm getting in as much knitting time as I possibly can also and the sweater kick is still going strong. I'm going to need a bigger closet to hold all the sweaters I have planned! My latest is a pattern called
Vanadium, which is a pleasure to knit and I think will get tons of wear. I'm using a delicious madelinetosh alpaca merino sport weight yarn in a color way called Black Velvet. I took this photo last week and I should finish it up hopefully by tomorrow.

I hope you all have a good weekend with lots of crafting and sunshine. Please wish me happy babies and long naps:)

  2. Love the quilt Megan!! I remember those days barely- just that they were insane and difficult and wonderful all at the same time. Potty training thrown on top- ACK! Sending good vibes your way!
I was in Seattle for a day a few weeks ago - I stopped at the Quilting Loft and someone was holding a baby - I got excited- but it wasn't you :(
I know, I know, silly but.....

  6. The quilt is looking great, Megan! I'm getting very inspired to do a scrappy quilt to cut down on the huge number of scraps I have these days. And I'm totally amazed at all the beautiful sweaters you knit as well. Looking forward to seeing this one finished!

  7. Good luck with the babes! I had my second child in January and it has been quite a journey! I love them both, but they are a handful. I hate to offer unsolicited parenting advice, but...this spring I tried to potty train my 2 year old and he did great. However these past two weeks he has really gotten jealous of his little brother and is behaving like a little baby. In other words, not using the potty. I had been warned that he might regress and boy has he! Hopefully this won't happen with your little girl. I've heard little girls don't always have this problem...

    Hang in there Mommy!

  10. Oh, I am sorry tiny Olivia has a sore tummy. I had a similar experience with my son and it was indeed trying. I'm sure you're drowning in advice, so I'll withhold and just say I hope things improve soon for everyone!

I have MO II and really want to make the same scrap busting quilt. The chaos between the ordered wheels really appeals to me. Yours is looking fantastic!

  12. I hate hearing that other people have unsettled babies too. Both my babies were like that and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I hate to offend by offering unsolicited advice....but just want to make sure you're aware that it could be a food allergy or intolerance. Please email me if you would like to chat.

But I am so glad you are getting some crafting time!

  15. Hang in there, Megan! My little one was milk intolerant--going completely off of milk/dairy/chocolate cut the screaming/fussing down exponentially! Beautiful projects!!

  16. Love the Black Velvet MadTosh!

So sorry to hear about the tummy issues. It sounds like you most definitely have your hands full. I hope it passes soon and I'm glad to hear you have an hour here and there to stay sane!

  17. I like the fabric cubicles. The way I see it, if you move a few more things around, you'd have 4 or 5 open spaces for more fabric, it is very beneficial for me.
